Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole reckons that his former club will be better off signing Karim Benzema rather than Harry Kane.
Both strikers have been linked heavily with United in recent weeks. While Benzema is an established centre forward who plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world in the form of Real Madrid, Kane comes on the back of a spectacular season with Tottenham. It has been speculated that the England international will cost around £ 40 million and it has been seen as the perfect replacement for Wayne Rooney going forward.
Rooney has just touched 30 years of age and will be expected to last around a couple of years at the top level.Kane is just starting his top-level career and will be able to provide the same kind of service that Rooney has done in the last 10 years. Benzema, though, will be a short-term addition to the team since he already arrives at the peak of his powers. Cole, though, reckons thatKane will struggle immediately after making the switch to United. Even though the forward has scored 21 goals last season, Cole says that it was a campaign in which everything went in for the youngster and he does not expect a repeat of the same going forward.
“He’s [Benzema] a very good player and played at the highest level for years. He’s done it at international level and (you) look at that and say that could definitely work, him and (Wayne) Rooney. He’s [Kane] had a brilliant first season. But then can he come to Man United, and if it is true for £40m, and bring to Man United what Man United need?Whoever comes to Man United as a centre forward is going to be under a hell of a lot of pressure,” said Cole.
