Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has taken a swipe at Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba for his first-half performance against Crystal Palace. The France international struggled to assert authority in midfield during the course of the first period, and he was partly at fault for Andros Townsend’s opener after he gave the ball away attempting a long-range pass.
Speaking at half-time, Neville criticised the Frenchman for his poor showing alongside Nemanja Matic, and believes the midfielder was taking everything easy like YouTube or Instagram video, he said: “His great weakness is that he plays like he’s playing in the park with his mates. It’s like everything he does is like a YouTube or Instagram video. It’s like it’s not serious, it’s like a joke to him in terms of the way he goes about things. It’s no wonder Jose Mourinho has left him out for the past few weeks a number of times.”
Jose Mourinho’s side found themselves 2-0 down shortly after the break, but they managed to stage a dramatic comeback with goals from Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku, and a stunner from Matic in injury-time sealing what looked like an improbable victory. Pogba’s performance improved as the game went on, and his showing was nowhere near the levels during the start of the season.
With the victory, United managed to leapfrog Liverpool into second spot – a position which they have held behind Manchester City for most of the campaign, and they now have the chance to cement the spot when they host Liverpool on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp’s side are two points behind their historic rivals heading into the Old Trafford clash, and United will be searching for their first victory in five attempts versus the Reds. Manchester United played out a goalless draw in the reverse fixture where they literally defended in their own half for most of the match.
