During the entirety of the last summer transfer window, a host of players were linked to Manchester United after several reports emerged that the club were in need of replacements for underperforming members of the squad and to also add up squad numbers. Both the ones that the club genuinely had interest to sign and the ones that were never in the picture were all touted as potential transfer targets but, in the end, some of those players were never mentioned anymore.
One of the players that were strongly linked to the Red Devils is Dayot Upamecano. The defender plays for German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig and has also attracted interest from a lot of top clubs across Europe both in Germany, France, and England. Leipzig’s local rivals Bayern Munich recently joined the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea in what is squaring up to be a hot chase for the French defender.
Before other clubs came into the picture, however, Manchester United were looking like the player’s next destination as he was heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford. Despite all the transfer rumors, the 22-year-old remained at Leipzig, but the rumors have continued to swirl around.
The majestic defender has a release clause of €42 million (£37.3 million), a fee which will not be a problem for any of the teams interested in signing him due to how much of a good player he is. However, the recent update is that Olé Gunnar Solskjær has moved on and is no longer interested in bringing the towering center-back to the Theater of Dreams as the Norwegian looks to invest more faith in his current center-backs until when the summer transfer window opens when there would be more available options to pick from.
